New Year

2010 has not been a good year...

Failed my professional paper... TWICE!

Under academic probation for the first time ever...

Dengue fever and admitted to hospital for one whole week...

Have been quite closed off from others... especially Y3S1...

A lot of things just didn't go as planned... :'( Here's hoping for better things ahead in 2011...

Paper leaked...

There's something happened in my uni lately which made a lot of people furious.

Let's break it down what happened first. On a Friday there was a Financial Statement Analysis (that's one of the subject I am taking this semester) mid-term test. But before the test there have been some talk about the test; there are two sittings for the test to accommodate the students with different timetables so that they can find a suitable time to sit for it. At that time, I thought that they will have different set of questions for the different sittings. But the lecturer did not let the students register beforehand (they do not know how many people are sitting for the paper for the different sessions), and they hand out the same sets of questions for both sittings. Funny eh?

So naturally some of the students mentioned this to the lecturer (the paper obviously leaked) and the lecturer was not happy about it. Hence the retest. Now, many students are not happy because they have to retest... obviously again.

The right way, I believe, should have been that there should be no two sittings in the first place. If cannot accommodate, just do it on a Saturday or something like that...

Tests and presentation all over already.. yay!=) Now have time to sit down and blog...

Time flies... it's Week 6 T.T

Wah... wah... week six already leh... why is it so fast??

Amuses me when I saw my coursemates discussing the upcoming tests for the next few weeks on Facebook, which kinda goes like this:

"Eh Life Con 2 on Week 7..."
"Not on Week 8 meh... I remember she told..."
"FSA on Week 8 la..."
"I thought it's on..."
"No.. no... there's three subjects on Week 8..."

=) makes you wonder why isn't anyone complaining during our secondary school days when during our final exam we have two papers on the same day with less than an hour break in between...

FIFA World Cup

Yeap.. the biggest sporting event on Earth is here... FIFA World Cup 2010!!

It has been a long time since I catch any football... the last time I watch (purely for fun, that is) was Euro 2008, which was held around this time also (remembered cuz I just started my university studies and I was staying up late for a few matches... hard to believe I actually got into Dean's List at the end of that semester=.=)

No lah... really no time for that. The first WC match I watched was the Japan-Cameroon group match while I was at a dinner celebrating my coursemates' birthdays. I have to say that I really did hook myself into the game. But then that was it. There's so many things for me to handle now (studies)... No time for WC yet...

Anyway, for those football fans there... do enjoy! Cuz WC's here for only once every four years!!

Stress Stress Stress....

It has only been Week 3 but now I am stressed up like hell... I am only taking 5 subjects this semester compared to a few who are taking 6 subjects... but I am so stressed.... Does anybody feeling stressed out like I do? T.T I'm falling behind in so many subjects... wait.. all of them!! Cham lo...

A Conversation in the Uni Office

I was at the campus office the other day and I overheard this student talking to one of the officers there:

"Miss, my address has changed. I need you to redirect my uni results to my new address..."
"But I believe UTAR has sent it out already..."
"Har? (frantic) When was that? But my address has changed already wo..."
"I think that was last week..."
"But I would not be able to receive it wo.. my address changed already...how to receive it..."
"You can check with the Exam Department..."

Haha... I bet this student has been placed under probation.. and he didn't want his family to know about how he is faring... hahaha... Looks like he can't run away from this then=)

My results=(

This is a thing from the past but then I still need to point it out... my results for last sem was terrible!=(

Just less than 0.01 below the 2.0000 GPA mark and now I'm under probation (now I/you know why they insist on putting so many decimal points on our GPA... they are very particular about it...even if you get 1.9999 you will still be under probation...) I wanted to write in to exempt me from this rule but they said it is of no use... well, not that I expected them to help me...

Still haven't finalize my timetable yet... this is frustrating.=(

Year 3 Sem 1 Here I Come

I just wanna calm myself down with just a few days before my new university semester starts. This time I do not have much baggage coming into a new semester unlike previous semesters... Y1 busy with the photostating of my notes la... Y2S1 busy with the new house in Setapak la... Short Sem busy with my P exam la... Y2S2 busy with my FM exam la (note: fail liao tim T.T ) So, this semester I can start afresh with less things to 'fan' compared to previous semesters...

Most probably I am allowed to take only 4 subjects since my results was very bad the last semester around... if you are a UTAR student then you know how the university works... I was even thinking of taking six subjects next semester so that I do not have to take 5 subjects next semester... Now looks like this is not going to work...

This semester also marks the end of my stay with my current housemates in PV10. I want to thank all my housemates in Pv10 for making my stay with you all an experience. Thanks for the joy and laughter... and the help that the 4 of you gave me throughout the year. There were good times and bad times... the memorable moments that we shared will always have a place in my heart=) (e.g. throwing cakes around=p) At the moment I will be travelling to and fro between campus and Bandar Sunway... maybe time consuming but I hope things will go well later on... Might be moving to a place... but depends on location and rent lo=)

Have been relaxing myself for the last few days... Looked at my results >> checked back my exam papers to see if need to appeal against grade >> doing some soul searching on why did i get such results >> how to improve >> how to arrange my new timetable.. etc... etc...

My message to Actuarial Science students reading this: I learnt something this semester-- when you are studying, concentrate on your studies.. and by studies I meant your current studies. I spent the first few weeks concentrating SOLELY on my FM professional exam and neglected on my uni subjects until after CNY break... I found it very hard to catch up. I really thought I could but that was not to be the case...

Let's talk about the future... leave the past be the past...

Hopefully will be able to update my Facebook account more frequently this semester=) Was reading my housemate's twitter account and was quite captivated.. until I decided sticking with Facebook is much better=p

I believe a lot of you will start your new semester soon or july/august... anyway good luck and all the best=) Oh, and being a final year student while all my other high schoolmates have graduated and began their work made me realize one thing... treasure your days now or you will regret later=)

Mid-Sem Update

Ok, you can argue it's Week 8 already and it has passed the mid-sem cut-off point... but still it's not too late to have a look back at the last few weeks and start planning (differently) for the next remaining six weeks...

Firstly, I haven't blog about my FM results. Why? Because I have failed the test=( Sad. Ok, that's beside the point. What's worse is that after all the FM SOA things are settled... I started studying the things for this semester. I didn't go out much last CNY week... I couldn't catch up all the things in the one week (and you know la... CNY week who got mood to study wo...)

Then I was like... ok lah... still got time ma... man man lai... arrange time wisely and so on...

Ok, after all that was done. I started studying... cannot catch up la... And it's not because I don't understand... it's I don't think have enough time to do more exercise/tutorial/comprehending... stuff like that... It's like can only go through like 1 time only... not enough de le...

This morning was Macroeconomics test. Terrible. Two nights before went drinking. The day after woke up early for class and study until almost 12. Then cannot tahan. Hit the pillow and fell asleep. This morning was still in sleeping mode and went for my test at 8am.

On holiday mood?

First week of classes are the most relaxing ones... It's no surprise that often can you hear students in lecture halls talking about playing football, watching movies, hit the mall and so on.... 'cuz most of them meet after the long holidays and you can't blame them for having high energy for some crazy entertainment. Furthermore, there's nothing on the lecture hall tables, except probably the handphones for some occasional finger-pressing exercise...

Now, who's fault is that? hmm....

Poor me, let's hope time flies quickly and let me done away with my test quickly please!=)

To Skip or Not to Skip?

It's the first week of lectures, and I don't blame anyone who has high expectations on these lectures. After all, the lecturers' style of teaching, the atmosphere, and the subject matter itself are under tight scrutinizing from students alike. Wonder what's on their minds these few days... Hmm...

'This subject is boring... I am going to skip this one...'

'Hey there's XXX tutorial on Wednesday too.... yay, I can skip the lecture AND the tutorial on that day too...'

Welcome back to the notorious uni way of life.

New Semester

New semester. New beginning.

Yeap, i won't differ the view that the arrival of a new semester only serves as an excuse for the majority of us to set new semester goals, new resolutions... when in reality 'new semester resolutions' are unheard of, really. And I am not referring to the three-word term itself.

'Work smart, play hard... get good results...' the same old resolutions sem after sem. Let's face it. Predictable and boring. But sadly true.

So, what's your aim for this semester?=)

That's it... 2009... Another year has passed... another year to be welcomed...

Well, wanted to write some extraordinary things which happened this year... but then thought about some happenings which aren't so good, which are not good to be remembered...

Anyway, let's just leave it like that...

Let's treasure the happy moments in the past one year, forget the unhappy ones... and look forward to a better new year ahead!

Passed SOA P/1 Exam!!

Yay! I finally passed my first ever SOA (Society of Actuaries) professional paper!! Of course, it is not one grand achievement... it's just the first of a series of paper which we (actuaries wannabes) need to sit for in order to achieve our professional actuary status.... nothing to shout about really...

I'm not trying to brag about myself here but then just some experience... (you can visit as08.freeforums.org to see how the previous batch of candidates fare...) from yours truly...

Just know your prob 1 and 2 well (as well as the last few chapters in the P manual, even though for myself there's no question from Chapter 9 and 10 of that manual) and try to have your mind clear before the exam, relax yourself, don't get panic... then you should be ok. Of course, you need to have ample preparation before the exam, and a bit of luck will help too (I heard my friends got some tough questions....)

I burnt midnight oil for the exam so I'm not the one you look for for any studying advice...=p

Anyway if you are planning to take the exam in future, good luck and all the best!

New Semester

I have finished my Business Law assignment... phew! Now suddenly have an urge to update my blog after such a long time... hopefully it will be interesting=)

Yeap, new semester it is right now. In fact it has been 4 weeks into the new semester. Man it is so hectic. Probably it is because I am taking at the same time the SOA P/1 exam in a few weeks time =0 and I am not really prepared at all at this time!!

Been spending quite a lot of time in my room at my apartment at Setapak... Daily itenery would be waking up, go to lectures/tutorials... come back, eat, drink, study, sleep.... wait! Have been hooked on this Hong Kong Cantonese drama "Born Rich" (fu gui men)... 45 minutes in front of the monitor (without break!) I didn't want this to be the case (ngo hm siong der)... but looks like I am really hooked... 41 episodes leh!!My results took a nose dive last semester. Have been changing the way I do things.. hopefully things change for the better=)

Results

Results are out (long time ago...). Sad T.T

Then again I can only took the blame. I actually expected it... given how I prepared for this final this time around....

Now I am hearing news that if we are to get First Class Honours for our Bachelor Degree then our PTPTN loan would be converted to a scholarship starting next year...

My first reaction was... oh dear... (not even a slight sense of hope or happiness at the beginning... just a feeling full of regretness...)

After calculation... I can only achieve this if I were to get into the President's List for all next semesters... (that is, getting GPAs of around 3.8 3.9...)

Walaoe....

No hope d lor.... T.T

Finals Over

This post should have been earlier but anyway... here it is now...

Finals are OVER!!

What I learnt from this finals? (or this sem...) Well, probably I will leave it until the results are out...

Prob and Stat II

I don't know if the questions are tough or not... I just know that there are many questions on the Prob and Stat II which I overlooked... reason?

(BTW... this one's for those who sat P&S2 this morning...)

The answer was just too long! For the first part of Question 5, the answer which Dr. Toh gave was like a full page of an A4 foolscap paper! I was thinking... Would not come out gua....

And of course, it DID come out... with the wording of the question EXACTLY the same as the one given for tutorial...

(Reminded me of Discrete Mathematics and Application which I took during Year 1 Semester 1... same question for test and finals.... 10 full marks...)

Then again during the last half an hour I was flipping through the question booklet over and over and over again... So unlucky that for each question there is roughly the same amount of things which I could not get the answer to! And yeap, I DID panicked.

No point crying over spilt milk. Need to get over it and start studying for my next subject...

Oh, btw... this time's finals have been terrible so far... but then I don't want to talk about it yet...

Finals

Hey there... It's been so long since I have updated something.... Mainly because I am in the middle of having my finals right now, which will end on 23th September.

And exam = nothing but study study and study... =( That's not really good. And I am not really sure if having housemates whom are not so tensed up as me really helps... Hmmm.... Everytime I leave my room/relax with them I feel relaxed... but after a while I start to worry about it...

Ok... just ten more days...That's not too bad gua...
